The Gloucestershire Way Trail

Saturday 23 Mar 2019 - Saturday 19 Oct 2019

Our chosen trail for 2019 is the Gloucestershire Way; 100 miles between Chepstow Castle and Tewkesbury. We will start by walking eastwards through the Forest of Dean, over May Hill, Gloucester, the Severn plain, on into the Cotswolds and the delightful villages of Lower and Upper Slaughter and Stow on the Wold where we turn westwards and head back to Tewkesbury. There are 9 sections, each of between 10-12 miles with one section at 13 miles. As in previous years, the bus transport meeting point will be the Countryside Centre. These walks will take place on Saturdays starting 23rd March and finishing on 19th October. All bank holiday weekends and group holiday dates have been avoided. There is a 4 week interval between each of the sections except for the second and final sections where the interval is 3 weeks

Note that these walks are linear and around 10 miles. Please be comfortable that you are capable of walking such a distance with a group.

Past experience shows that we rarely get more than 30 people on these trail walks, so this year we are limiting each walk to 29 people as the 29 seater coach is the optimum transport from a cost perspective.

So to avoid disappointment BOOK and PAY now to guarantee your place on the coach.

Booking is now open for sections 1 to 3

The meeting point for the coach is the Countryside Centre, WR5 2LG. We will depart promptly at 08:30am.

Please send your name, and which walk(s) you are booking to Heather Fraser and pay £12 per person, per walk to Worcester Ramblers Bank Account.

Please quote reference - surname/GW when paying directly into the Worcester Ramblers Bank Account.

If you do not have the bank details please contact the Treasurer (Marian Carr). If you are paying by cheque please include an additional chrage of 50 pence

There will be no refunds. However, if, having booked, you are unable to take part in one section of a walk, your fee can be used for another section, provided you give 2 weeks notice to the organisers of your non participation.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the trail.

Gower Peninsula

These dates are now confirmed

Please send expressions of interest to Jane

A week on Gower (Friday to Friday)

Designated the UK's first Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB) in 1956. As a peninsula located to the West of Swansea, Gower is blessed with award-winning beaches (one of them regularly features in the top 10 best beaches in the world). Clean, clear waters, hills, bridle paths, walkways, woodlands, castles, restaurants, country pubs and much more.

Gower is one of the country's most popular walking destinations. A mix of awe inspiring coastal path with a complex geology influenced by past ice ages. Feast your eyes on the south coast's superb limestone scenery at Worm's Head and Oxwich Bay with salt marshes, dune systems and the Whiteford Lighthouse in the north.

The proposed walking programme will be a mixture of circular and linear walks.

Transport

Make your own way to Gower with an opportunity to share a lift once we have the list of names.

Accommodation

We have now secured and paid a deposit for a block booking of self catering properties.

However for those who like the outdoors, camping is an option situated across the road from the accommodation.

Thank you to all those who have confirmed their attendance and wish the holiday to go ahead. Please note it is now fully booked.  However, anyone else interested can go onto a reserve list.

Itinerary is now available, all those who have booked should now have received a copy via email

Yorkshire Dales Walking Week

Friday 21 Jun 2019 - Friday 28 Jun 2019

A chance to walk in one of the most beautiful National Parks in the UK, the Yorkshire Dales. The walking programme will provide one walk a day and will cover some of the best walks and sights. It will include three individual walks to cover each of the highest peaks, Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent plus additional walks from Malham, Ingleton and Settle. All planned walks are hilly, circular and between 9-11 miles

For those wishing not to walk every day here are a few suggestions; Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes, the famous falls at Aysgarth, Bolton Abbey or the market towns of Richmond and Skipton.

Accommodation

Make your own arrangements. I am staying in Horton In Ribblesdale. Consider this location and the surrounding area of Hawes, Ingleton or Settle when booking. There are plenty of cottages, campsites and B&B's. I have a list of cottage companies if required.

Transport

Make your own way to the area.
